I recently downloaded the free app Google Search, a digital personal assistant for my iPhone and iPad. It is also available for android devices. Here are just a few of the things that Google Search can do for you:
Each category adds what are called cards to my screen. So currently I have a card for the Olympics, which tells me what the upcoming events are and what the medal standings are and each of these has links to additional information. There is another card that tells me about the Minnesota Wild hockey team showing who they last played and the score. In the settings for this card and other teams can be added. There is also a Nearby events card which shows events happening in the area. I haven't figured out how they decide what they are posting, because I only have 6 events and they go from items 40 miles away to 80 miles away. Looking at the settings I don't know how to get it to be more localized. There is also a Weather card showing the local weather. I have yet to figure out how to get more cards, I believe they are suppose to get created as you do searches.
One of the best features is the voice commands you can give it. If you have the app open you can say "Hey, Google" and then put in your search request. It did a good job when given several commands. As an Apple lover, I hate to admit it, but I was more successful with my Google searches than I have been with Siri. Although Siri and Google Search seem at first glance to be much alike, there purpose is different. Siri was created to answer your questions and Google Search was created to anticipate your needs. So I encourage you to download it and give it a try, you just might like it. Let us know what you think!
