There are so many apps available and many times I download an app and use it once or twice and never go back to it again. So today I would like to share some of my favorites that I go back to again and again. Most of these are free apps; and, although some of them are education specific, others are not. Hopefully you will find at least one in my favorite list that you didn't know about and may find useful.
AppoLearning - This is an iPad app that lists the best educational apps for children. The apps are first divided by age groups: Early Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School and High School. Under each age division you will be able to search by subject. The main subject areas are English & Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, World Languages, Art & Music, Special Needs, Productivity, Creative Expression, Health, Social & Emotional Learning, and College Prep. Each of these subject areas is broken down into more specific topics. There are also articles dealing with different technologies, news and reviews of some of the newest apps. I find this a great resource for finding apps to fit a specific need.
AppsGoneFree - A great app to let you know what great iOS apps have gone free for the day. Every day hundreds of apps go free for a short period of time. This app lists the best of what they believe has gone free for the day. I find myself checking this app everyday and at least once a week finding something I just can't live without...or even apps that my students could really use.
Pinterest - For those of you who have found Pinterest and love to search for new pins for your boards this is the mobile app you want. If you don't know what Pinterest is I will try to briefly describe it. Pinterest is a social network that allows you to create boards based on your interests. Then, when you find other sites or other pins that people have posted you can then pin them to your boards. It's a great way to collect ideas you want to come back to later. This app makes it easy to do on your portable devices.
Ted - A great way to access different Ted Talks using your mobile device. You can even browse the talks when you aren't online and create your own playlists. You will find talks from respected individuals dealing with technology, education, medicine, business and music to name a few. A great place to hear what others are thinking, to be inspired and be challenged.
Word Collage (iOS) - Do you love the website for Wordle or Taxedo, but would really like to do it on your iPad? Checkout this app for 99 cents. It is much like Wordle and lets you create your own collage of words.
YouTube - Wondering how to successfully play YouTube videos on your mobile device? Check this app out. Easy to use and you can sign into your YouTube account and find your playlists even if you created it on your desktop machine.
I would love to hear what your favorite apps are and I am especially interested in what android apps you find useful.
